photographs Transfered to Beetle kill pine
Beetle kill pine is the term used for pine trees killed by the Mountain Pine Beetle. The beetles bore their way into the tree, lay their eggs and cut off the flow of nutrients and water, killing the tree from the inside out. A fungus from the beetle is introduced into the tree and discolors the wood with a distinct blue tint. The blue discoloration is in varying amounts in the wood. The photos on both sides of the block are selected to complement the blue color and grain of the wood. Each piece is an original.
